Supporting Your Mental Wellness
At NC Online Therapy, we offer compassionate care tailored to help you navigate life's challenges with confidence.

About NC Online Therapy
NC Online Therapy provides professional online therapy and life coaching services designed to support your mental health, personal growth, and relationship wellbeing. Using a warm, practical, and person-centered approach, I help individuals, couples, and groups navigate challenges such as stress, anxiety, relationship concerns, life transitions, and personal development goals.
All therapy sessions are offered through telehealth (phone or video), giving you convenient access to licensed counseling from anywhere in North Carolina and Connecticut. Online therapy makes it easier to prioritize your mental health while maintaining privacy, flexibility, and comfort. In addition to licensed counseling services, I offer life coaching worldwide for clients seeking clarity, accountability, and forward-focused support.
I also provide critical incident support services to organizations whose employees have experienced workplace trauma or distressing events. Through confidential therapy services, I help workers process and recover from incidents such as workplace accidents, threats, loss of a colleague, or other traumatic situations that impact mental health and job performance. These services can be arranged quickly to support your team during difficult times, helping employees regain stability and resilience in the aftermath of crisis.
NC Online Therapy welcomes private pay clients and companies. I strive to make getting started simple and accessible. You can text or message anytime for confidential inquiries, and I will respond as soon as possible.

Meet Your Therapist
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me and my practice. Finding the right therapist is one of the most important steps you can take on your journey toward healing and growth, and I hope this page helps you feel a sense of comfort and confidence in reaching out.
I am Brenda Carey, a dedicated and compassionate therapist with over 25 years of experience helping individuals, families, and communities navigate life's most challenging moments. My approach is rooted in genuine care, clinical expertise, and a deep respect for each person's unique story.
Education & Training
I earned dual Master's degrees from Northeastern University — a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology and a Master of Science in Business. This unique combination of clinical training and business acumen has allowed me to build a practice that is not only therapeutically sound but also organized, accessible, and client-centered.

Professional Experience
My career began in Boston, where I had the privilege of working at McLean Hospital — one of the nation's most respected psychiatric institutions and a Harvard Medical School affiliate. There, I worked with diverse populations across the full spectrum of mental health needs, gaining deep experience with complex clinical presentations in a rigorous, evidence-based environment.
After relocating to North Carolina, I founded my own private practice, where I have continued to provide thoughtful, individualized therapy care.
In addition to my private practice, I have served as a Military Life Family Consultant, supporting the unique emotional and logistical challenges faced by active duty service members and their families. This role deepened my appreciation for the resilience of those who serve and strengthened my ability to provide culturally informed, mission-aware support.
I have also served as a professor at an online college, teaching psychology courses and mentoring the next generation of mental health professionals. Sharing knowledge and helping students develop their clinical thinking has been a deeply fulfilling part of my career.
My Approach
With more than 25 years in the field, I have worked with clients from all walks of life — across ages, backgrounds, and presenting concerns. Whether you are navigating anxiety, depression, grief, relationship challenges, life transitions, or the demands of military life, I bring a warm, non-judgmental presence and a commitment to meeting you exactly where you are.
I believe that therapy is a collaborative process — one built on trust, curiosity, and a genuine investment in your wellbeing. My goal is always to help you develop insight, build resilience, and move toward the life you envision for yourself.
I would be honored to walk alongside you on your journey. Please don't hesitate to reach out — taking that first step is often the hardest, and I'm here to make it as welcoming as possible.
Canceling Appointments
To avoid being charged, please cancel your therapy session by the end of the prior business day (before 5:00 PM). Cancellations made after this window, or missed sessions, will result in a $60 fee.

10-Minute Grace Period
Appointments are 50 minutes in length. Both clients and therapists are extended a 10-minute grace period, though for different reasons.
For clients: While we always encourage arriving on time, as a courtesy we do allow up to 10 minutes of late arrival. Your session will still take place for the full 50 minutes, ending at the top of the next hour. If you arrive more than 10 minutes late, the appointment will be considered a no-show and a $60 fee will be charged.
For therapists: Your therapist may also begin your session up to 10 minutes after the scheduled start time if they need to finish supporting a previous client who is in crisis. Clinical emergencies sometimes require a brief extension of care, and your therapist will join you as soon as it is safe to do so.
